Shakespeare’s timeless tales come to live through the grandiose drama of opera.
About this recital
William Shakespeare occupies a unique position in the world of literature. Over the past 400 years, his plays have been translated into every major living language and performed more often than those of any other playwright. Awash with references to music, these plays have been a source of inspiration for countless composers, from Purcell through to Verdi.
In this intimate recital, join sopranos Rebecca Cassidy and Annika Hinrichs, baritone Cameron Bodiam-Taylor, and pianist Brendan Murtagh, as they perform extraordinary opera excerpts inspired by Shakespeare's timeless tales: including excerpts from Verdi’s riveting Macbeth as well as Thomas’ Hamlet, Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, and more.
Audiences will be captivated by an evening of dramatic singing featuring some of Australia’s finest classical voices in Shakespeare.
