Brendan Murtagh, one of Australia’s most proficient musicians, is recognised as a consistent and talented répétiteur across the musical theatre, opera and choral genres. 

His musical theatre experience is vast, having played keys for nationally touring musicals, including Beauty and the Beast, Moulin Rouge, Mary Poppins, Cinderella, 9 to 5, Frozen, Chess, Muriel’s Wedding, The Book of Mormon, School of Rock, Aladdin, Mamma Mia, The Wizard of Oz, Kinky Boots, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Singin’ in the Rain, Anything Goes, Les Miserables, Wicked, The Lion King, The King and I, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jersey Boys, Annie, Avenue Q, Cats, and Chicago, while making acquaintances with production powerhouses; The Michael Cassel Group, Gordon Frost Entertainment Pty Ltd, TML Enterprises, The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific and Opera Australia, among others. 

In 2021, Brendan was the Assistant Musical Director for the national touring production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, conducting performances in the Lyric Theatre, QPAC and Crown Theatre Perth.

Based in Brisbane, Brendan has thrived with local companies, touring as a music director and accompanist with Underground Opera, while being a répétiteur with Opera Queensland, Queensland Conservatorium and the University of Queensland.   
A highlight of Brendan’s choral music involvement has been with leading youth organisation Voices of Birralee, with performances across the globe in Canada, Austria and at the 2015/16 WW1 Anzac centenary commemorations on the Western Front, France. 
Brendan is also an educator, teaching piano and working as a choral accompanist at St. Rita’s College. 

His experience is backed by a University of Queensland Bachelor of Music (Honours), Class IIA Major in Music Performance (Piano) and AmusA (Piano).
