Sopranos, Leanne Kenneally and Morgan England-Jones shine as rival Queens in a dramatic adaptation of Donizetti’s bel canto masterpieces, Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux.
About this concert
Donizettis’ acclaimed bel canto masterpieces, loosely based on the Tudor Queens, are renowned for their demanding female leads, requiring singers with a sublime technique and stupendous sound who are capable of reaching stratospheric highs.
In The Two Queens, sopranos Leanne Kenneally and Morgan England-Jones star as Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Elizabeth I, two of the most remarkable women in history who were bound by blood as cousins, but divided in their beliefs as monarchs.
The dramatic lives of these rulers will be explored featuring semi-staged scenes from the composer’s operas Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux which feature favourite arias and chorus numbers including the Confrontation Scene, The Prayer and the Mad Scene.
Supported by a cast and chorus of some of Australia’s finest established and emerging artists, The Two Queens is Voxalis’ biggest project to date and a night of opera that you don’t want to miss!
