Lauren Towns is a Brisbane-based mezzo-soprano who has been described as having a “rich, resonant and compelling beauty of tone” (Vocal Faculty at the Queensland Conservatorium 2022). Originally from New Zealand, Lauren Towns is a third year Bachelor of Music (Performance) Classical Voice Candidate at the Queensland Conservatorium studying under the tutelage of Lisa Gasteen AO. Lauren recently performed the roles of Carmen (Carmen) and Dorabella (Cosí fan tutte) in excerpts at the 2023 Cuskelly Summer School Opera Program. Towns performed in the 2022 Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program’s production of Die Opernprobe and Der häusliche Krieg. Within the Queensland Conservatorium, She has also performed in
productions including Iolanthe (2022), and the 2022 Val Machin Scenes. Supported by the North Harbour Club, Lauren is the 2021 recipient of the AIMES Emerging Talent Award (Music/Art). Additionally, Towns won runner up in the Margaret Nickson Prize for Voice and Accompaniment (2022) alongside pianist Oscar Matthews. Lauren is looking forward to performing the role of Orpheus in excerpts from Orpheus and the Underworld in the 2023 QCGU Val Machin Scenes, and the Glazier in excerpts from Orphée in QCGU’s 2023 annual production of Underworld.
