Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth) is a colossal work described by the composer as “probably the most personal work I have written so far”. Mahler, who was terminally ill at the time of its composition, eulogises his impending departure from the world with a profound sense of contemplation which still resonates with audiences today.

 

Dramatic and intensely expressive, the hour-long ‘symphony for solo singers’ commands exceptional voices to bring it to life. Voxalis is thrilled to bring Opera Australia principal tenor, Iain Henderson, back to his hometown for this exclusive performance alongside mezzo-soprano Genevieve Dickson. They will be joined by pianist, Alex Raineri, who has been hailed as a “soloist of superb virtuosic skill and musicality” by Limelight Magazine.
