From tender lands in the Midwest to Gershwin’s hit Broadway songs, join us for a journey through some of America’s operatic masterpieces.
About this concert
Originally influenced by European masters, America has become a powerhouse of the opera and musical theatre genres. Known for its fusion of cultures and distinctive musical heritage, composers have long been inspired by the sounds of Indigenous songs, spirituals, and jazz to create a voice that is unmistakably American.
In America!, Voxalis presents soprano Emma Nightingale, tenor Sebastian Maclaine, and baritone Tom Nicholson, alongside pianist Francis Atkins, performing songs and semi-staged operatic excerpts, not often heard in Brisbane, by composers including Gershwin, Weill, Bernstein and many more.
Don’t miss your chance to hear the exquisite pastoral sounds of Copland’s The Tender Land, through to heartbreaking arias from Floyd’s Susannah in this trip to the USA!
